Our Aims

We have simple aims. We want to provide children with the best possible Scouting experience preparing them with skills for life. We are part of a worldwide movement which aims to create stronger communities and inspire positive futures. We believe and trust in Scouting values and encourage our youngsters to aim for their dreams, do more and learn more . We help them reach their full potential by focusing on teamwork, leadership and resilience giving children every opportunity to develop and improve their key life skills. We work as part of the local community promoting inclusion to bring people together.

‘Two things matter in life: following your dreams and looking after your friends. This is what I love about Scouting. It’s about doing great things, loving and enjoying the great adventures and helping others to do the same.’ Chief Scout, Bear Grylls.

Our Work

Our youngsters succeed! Children from 6 to 18 years achieve an enviable range of core Challenge Awards and Chief Scout’s Awards, which focus on ambitious tasks themed around a balanced programme. Not only that but they also gain activity badges from programmed activities but also often on their own initiative. We enable this success by providing challenging and interesting programmes with adventurous activities and personal development opportunities. We believe that young people develop most when they are ‘learning by doing’, when they are given responsibility, work in teams, take acceptable risks and think for themselves. Through this work, they develop personal skills like resilience, initiative and tenacity; employability skills including leadership, teamwork and problem solving and practical skills like cooking and first aid.
Research nationally shows that this works. A 2018 report says that Scouts are 17% more likely to show leadership skills and work well in teams and 33% more likely to support their own communities. They are 32% more likely to be physically active than young people who don’t take part in Scouting.
What we do
Barton St David Scout Group is part of the East Somerset District Council of the Scout Association.

About Us

Barton St David Scout Group was formed in 1994 by a few dedicated volunteers and about seven Cubs. Initially the group was part of the Baden Powell Traditional Scouting Movement but is now a member of the Scout Association.
Since 1994, literally hundreds of youngsters have enjoyed Scouting in Barton. Weekly sessions have been held in Barton St David Village Hall, which is ideally located next to a large playing field and close to fields and woods for more adventurous activities.
Barton Scouting has always aimed to provide something for everyone. There have been numerous local camps in Somerset and Dorset along with international camps. We have always taken a clear role in our local community, taking part in events such as Remembrance, carnivals, events and local projects.
We continue to build on our rich and successful past and increase our success in the future.
