Scout Team member

Where: Scouts. Tuesday evening at 7pm. Barton St David Village Hall
Positions available: Unlimited

What the role involves

You will support the Scout Team Leader to run the Scout Troop, the 3rd section for our youth members who are aged 10 – 141/2 years . In particular:
• Help Scouts enjoy a safe, exciting and stimulating programme taking into account the needs, interests and abilities of the Scouts.
• Building and developing young people’s confidence and resilience, sense of adventure and outdoor skills, as well as encouraging them to explore their values and attitudes.
• Encouraging Scouts to work together and take the lead on all sorts of projects, from community based work to planning games and activities for their meetings.
• Providing regular leadership opportunities, supporting the Scouts to express their views on the programme and ensuring that their views are taken into account.

Team members are adult volunteers who work with Team Leaders and other team members to deliver the Scout programme. You can choose to wear uniform or not and receive awards for your service to Scouting. You can support whichever age range you prefer and what activities you enjoy. There are a number of benefits (over an Occasional Helper) from being a Section Assistant:
• Regular Scouting communications
• Training to support you in your role (you might not want to commit to being a full Leader but this role allows a flexible start with only minimal mandatory training)
• Free Personal Accident and Medical Expenses Insurance. (For more information, please call Unity (Scout Insurance Services) on 0845 0945 703.)
• Recognition for service, counting towards long service awards etc.

The role can involve any of the following depending on the level of assistance you wish to provide:
• Running games and activities as part of weekly section meetings and events.
• Assisting young people to achieve specific badges or awards.
• Assisting with residential experiences for the section.
• Assisting the section to enjoy a varied, exciting and safe programme of activities.

Occasional Helpers

Where: All sections
Positions available: Unlimited

What the role involves

What are Occasional Helpers? Occasional Helpers are adult volunteers who are not taking on a formal appointment but wish to help out more than once per month or assist with a residential experience etc. Due to the nature of that support a Disclosure Check is required but this is a quick and easy process. This is an informal non-uniformed role.
