Feb 2024. Actively recruiting Adult Team members for our Scout Section!

Use these links to contact us or join us.

Our  Scout Section (10-14 years) is in urgent need of new volunteers.  Do you know someone who would thrive as a volunteer in this section? It may be yourself!   Two or three people would make all the difference, working together as a team.  Everyone has something to give.  Yes everyone.  Whether it is an ability to talk to youngsters, supervising an activity, work skills to share or visits that you could arrange.  In many ways, the scout programme makes it easy to think of activities to do.  You may have been a Scout yourself, had a child in Scouts or have no real idea of what we actually do (yet!).

Why might you be a good scout leader? The most important skill is being able to communicate with children and adults and the second is wanting to help youngsters to achieve. You might also have a craft skill / outdoor skill / sport or be a whizz at pizza making (see photo) or astronomy or anything else. You’ll certainly want to have some fun and feel that you’re doing something worthwhile. All we ask is that you consider helping within a flexible team, with a very small amount of compulsory training, with loads of support and the recognition which comes with having a full team member role. Scout rules say that we have to have a full member at every session.  We also have plenty of funds at the moment to support you as a new volunteer for some time with ‘bought-in’ activities and resources.  And a number of experienced Leaders to support and mentor you as you find your feet.

Unless we find new team members urgently we are in danger of reducing the hours of our Scout Troop.   Less chance to join in the activity camps.  No exciting and challenging activities locally at low cost.  In over 30 years, someone always has responded in a crisis and I remain positive that you may think “maybe I could do it?”.  There’s nothing to lose by giving it a go. Look here join us. for info on the role.

Volunteering in Scouting is fun and life enhancing! You will have learn new skills, rediscover adventure, make new friends and give something back to your community.

I’d be delighted if you would give this serious consideration and I look forward to hearing from you.  gslbarton@yahoo.com or contact us or join us. I’m hoping to get a few volunteers to think about it and then we could meet together without obligation for you to ask me as many questions as you like and how you could best support our scouting. A small team working together will certainly make light work.

Thanks to the efforts of our volunteers, we are a large and thriving Scout Group inspiring young people to develop confidence, passion and a spirit of adventure.  We provide Scouting for youngsters aged 6 – 18. Our Leaders are young at heart and share their skills to meet the needs of the different age ranges providing adventurous and life changing experiences for all.  We draw in members from a ten-mile radius and beyond.

‘Scouting’s 500,000 members are an inspiration. It’s great to see it. It’s all about friendship and fun and adventure – people who might not normally have the chance for adventure. Scouts are shining lights in their communities.’ Chief Scout, Bear Grylls.

Have a look at this recent newsletter to see how we have been overcoming the challenges of the last year. We are proud of what we have achieved. There is no doubt we have kept our Scout Promise to ‘Do Your Best’.
